This kept coming up on my feed as a suggestion. So glad I followed it up. This place is lovely. Staff are great, food was lovely and the setting is very rural chic. We will be visiting again to take in some of the walks and finish with coffee and cake

Fabulous place to go for an afternoon tea. I was using a voucher that I got for my birthday. I booked online, which was super easy and you get reminders which is also helpful. The staff were so lovely and friendly and attentive and the food was just fabulous. We will definitely be back!

Great food and smiley service. Posh setting so if you are down from Chelsea for the weekend you won’t be disappointed. Wear boots for the signposted walks around the estate. Keep the mackerel pate on the specials please chef!!

What an absolute gem this place is!! Visited for the first time together with my partner, stopped for lunch. I had this cafe on my list for a while and kept looking for a chance to drive all over from Exeter to try it. And what a wonderful surprise it was! Booked the place for lunch and I had one of the best cooked duck legs ever! The little sweet treats baked in house are also super delicious, the coffee was great, this beautiful café is now in my top 10 Devon places to go!

I'd been meaning to try this café for some time, I was showing my partner the best Devon had to offer so took the risk and went. My goodness I'm glad we did! What a lovely, lovely experience. It was a glorious summer's day (aren't they all in Devon?!) and discovering the house/gardens/cafe along winding lanes was an adventure all on its own. A lovely courtyard scattered with shaded tables was busy so we got a table indoors - but still open, light and airy. The waiting-on staff were exceptional - professional, courteous and amusing too - one spotted the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust t-shirt being worn by my partner and said she'd also visited when in Kenya. The food - we both had generous salads, was perfect. The chef had to make a substitution due to running out of figs, but this was explained and the grapes added worked really well. We will be returning often to this superb café - many thanks.

A wonderful venue and fantastic food. We live locally in Ugborough and my wife suggested to go for a walk through the beautiful gardens and landscape of Shistone house, which even in the pouring rain was wonderful. We then went to the café for a light lunch and there were no complaints. The staff couldn't do enough to help and were particularly helpful in regards to our children and adjusting items to suit. The food was fresh, well made and fantastically presented, and the ploughman's sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had, which as a previous Michelin Star Chef I can attest to. There is a comment on here to say that the prices were expensive at nine pounds for a sandwich. The prices were clearly displayed and so if you didn't want to pay that then why did you? If you visit the National Trust or a boutique café or café farm shop then the prices are comparable and you do not get the service, dressed side salad or composition of food that you do at the Shilstone Café. Worth every penny, so much so that we took some chocolate fudge cake home to eat, certainly couldn't manage it after lunch. To add to this we also had a wonderful chat with the owner of Shilstone house who was passing and was very interested in our feedback. A truly wonderful place to visit and eat.
